Traveling with a Purpose: March 17-25th
Local Women is hosting travel opportunities for women to experience the wonders of Nepal while learning more about the work of Local Women’s Handicrafts and contributing to its efforts to make a difference in women’s lives. The journey will also give participants an opportunity to discover or advance their own purpose and meaning in life.
This nine-day cultural experience includes the famous Holi Color Festival, a Hindu spring festival which signify the victory of good over evil, travelers will visit heritage sites in Kathmandu and participate in a revelatory self-empowerment workshop.
To maintain an intimate experience, participation will be limited to 20 travelers. You are invited to join Nasreen on this transformational journey.
Day 1: Sunday, March 17
Arriving in Kathmandu, you will clear customs and immigration and be met by our operator, holding a sign indicating Local women SUMMIT 2019. After being transferred to our hotel Moon Light we will meet in the lobby and take a short walk through the street of Thamel, our neighborhood for the duration of our stay in Kathmandu. We will have an orientation during our welcome dinner at the OR2k Restaurant.
Day 2: Monday, March 18
After breakfast at the Himalayan Café, we will walk to the Gardens of Dream for a presentation on Nepal history and culture. We will then drive to Pashupatinath, a world heritage site and the holiest of the Hindu shrines. We will participate in a Fire Ceremony workshop to help us let go of our fears and self-imposed obstacles. In this workshop, we will learn how the feeling of fear affects our body and emotions and the consequences of this fear. We will also learn a healing technique, Shamanic Fire Ceremony, that has been used since ancient times to get rid of fears, negative emotions, and blockages and how to open the doors of opportunity into a more meaningful life. We will have dinner at an organic café and return to our hotel.
Day 3: Tuesday, March 19
We will participate in a workshop connecting us, through shamanic techniques, with our feminine ancestors, Mother Earth, angels and goddesses in an effort to help us embrace our feminine power. We will visit Godavari Botanical Gardens before having dinner at the Electric Pagoda. After dinner, we return to our hotel.
Day 4: Wednesday, March 20
After breakfast as the OR2k Restaurant, we will go to Local Women’s Handicrafts where we will visit the learning center and tour the facility.
We will participate in a craft workshop and make our own dream catchers to take home. We will make and eat organic and vegan momos for lunch.
After lunch, we will have an opportunity to connect with LWH women and learn about the Holi Celebration from local women. We will have an opportunity to shop at the LWH Cooperative shop before dinner at the Fire and Ice Restaurant. After dinner, we will return to our hotel.
Day 5: Thursday, March 21
After breakfast at Sarange Restaurant, and we enjoy a presentation on Holi Celebration and then walk to the Durbar Square to enjoy the festivities with local residents throughout the afternoon. After a rest at the hotel, we have dinner at the Revolution Café, with live music.
Day 6: Friday, March 22
After breakfast, we will check out of the Moon Light Hotel, then visit Buddha Nat Stupa and connect with the Buddhist Temple. After lunch at the temple, we will leave for the Namo Buddha Resort. After checking in, we will participate in a Healing Circle of trust and sisterhood in the afternoon. We will have dinner at the resort.
Day 7: Saturday, March 23
Today we can wake up late and enjoy the nature and organic food at the resort. We will visit the Namo Buddha Temple, where we will enjoy a workshop on the feminine womb space and pray for world peace with hundreds of monks. We will return to Kathmandu and have a special surprise during our farewell dinner.
Day 8: Sunday, March 24
Today we can take our day easy and slow then you might want to treat yourself to spa services, do final fair trade shopping or relax in a bar and soak up with scenery of this unique city. We will have a special surprise during dinner, before our farewell ceremony.
Day 9: Monday, March 25
Transfer to Airport for flights back home.
